The 84,000 sf Iowa Heart Center anchors the West Des Moines/Clive Medical District. A Prairie style design was requested by the client to accentuate the surrounding medical buildings. This modern Prairie design has further directly influenced the area. The recently constructed Mercy Hospital to its south has taken direct clues from both the neighboring IHC and the Westown Parkway Medical Office Building, also designed by Mr. Hielkema. Since the move to this new facility, Iowa Heart Center has grow to be one of the premier cardiology, vascular and cardiovascular surgery practices in the nation. (EDG, LTD)
Tivoli Village of Queensridge is a 16 acre high end Lifestyle Center in Suburban Las Vegas designed to resemble an Italian Community as it developed over the centuries. Tivoli Village consists of 19 separate buildings constructed over a two-and-a-half story parking structure. Mr. Hielkema was the Project Architect on two of those projects, the Rampart Arcade and Building 11, the main administrative building for the complex. The Rampart Arcade serves as the major entry element to the complex and sits at the intersection of two major corridors. The 125,000 sf mixed-use Building 11 houses not only administrative functions, shops and restaurants but provides significant community spaces with its exterior grand staircase and multiple visitable domed structures.
